Peter Downes joined the CIE in 2006 as Principal Macroeconomist and Macroeconomic Modeller. He was formerly Director of Macroeconomic Modelling at the OECD and the Australian Treasury. At the OECD, Peter was in charge of the modelling unit within the Economics Department with responsibility for coordinating OECD projections for the world economy, and analysing a wide variety of shocks and policy issues.
At Treasury, Peter had lengthy experience in forecasting, macroeconomic modelling and providing policy advice, and was responsible for some time for the Treasury Macroeconomic (TRYM) model. He also has experience in the analysis of greenhouse gas emissions, working on a Treasury / Australian Greenhouse Office examination of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) emission projections. In the early 1990s he worked on a number of major government reports including the FitzGerald Report into National Saving and the Committee on Employment Opportunities Green Paper, Restoring Full Employment.
