Dr Tingsong Jiang

Dr Tingsong Jiang joined the CIE in 2002 as a Senior Economist. Tingsong has a PhD in Economics from the Australian National University, which he completed in 2001. Before joining TheCIE, he was a postdoctoral fellow at ANU’s Asia-Pacific School of Economics and Management. Tingsong had worked at China’s National Environmental Protection Agency’s Nanjing Institute of Environmental Studies for more than eight years.

Tingsong’s key areas of expertise include the following:

  • economic modelling. Tingsong has been working with Professor Warwick McKibbin of ANU on a multi-country dynamic general equilibrium model, G-Cubed. He also built a general equilibrium model of the Chinese economy with regional dimensions, CERD;
  • Chinese economy and environment. Tingsong has been working on China’s regional development, trade policy and environmental protection for more than ten years;
  • trade policies. Tingsong has been involved the analysis of the impact of China’s WTO accession and the sectoral impact of proposed Australia-US free trade agreement;
  • environmental economics, especially economic instruments in greenhouse gas emissions control;
  • agricultural economics; and
  • survey design and data analysis. Tingsong has been involved in several large scale surveys in Australia and China.

Tingsong has seven publications in English and over 20 publications in Chinese in the area of environmental economics, trade policy and development economics. His book, titled Economic Instruments of Pollution Control in an Imperfect World – Theory and Implications for the Carbon Dioxide Emissions Control in China, was published by Edward Elgar in January 2004.
