Jason Soon

Senior Economist

Jason has almost 10 years of economic consulting experience. Before joining the CIE in October 2009 he was employed at Concept Economics and its predecessor organisations, CRA International and Network Economics Consulting Group (NECG), and before that was an economist in the International Tax practice of Ernst and Young in Sydney. He has a Bachelor of Economics with first class honours and a Bachelor of Law from the University of Sydney.

Jason’s experience has covered a broad range of issues including:

  • benefit-cost analyses of changes to intellectual property laws;
  • the economics of trade practices legislation and mandated access regimes;
  • economic evaluations of regulations such as consumer protection laws and restrictions in the gaming industry;
  • the economics of payment card schemes; and
  • assessments of best practice in regulatory review processes and regulatory reform.

Jason is also a keen writer and communicator on economic issues and has been published on the ABC News Opinion and Analysis website, the ABC Unleashed website, Policy, The Canberra Times and the Competition and Consumer Law Journal.
