Poverty remains one of the most serious international challenges we face, although the proportion of the population living in poverty is steadily declining. Globalisation, in the form of increased economic integration through trade and investment, is an important reason why much progress has been made in reducing poverty and global inequality over recent decades.

This report, prepared for the Department of Foreign Affairs and AusAID, examines the extent of poverty today and the links between globalisation and poverty relief.
