Gas demand forecast – ACT and Queanbeyan 2026-2045

The CIE has developed a detailed forecast of demand and customer numbers for Evoenergy's gas distribution network in Australian Capital Territory (ACT)

and Queanbeyan-Palerang over the period to 2045. The forecasts are being used in network planning and to set Evoenergy’s gas network tariffs for the access arrangement (AA) period 2026–31.

The CIE's approach goes beyond that used for previous forecasts by embedding (1) a customer-level choice model estimated on stated preference research, and (2) the feedback loop between demand and gas network prices. These innovations were introduced to address the unique circumstances in Evoenergy's network, where the ACT Government has committed to phasing out natural gas by 2045 and gas demand has started to decline.
