15 Mar 2013 report
TheCIE is advising the Office of the Tasmanian Economic Regulator on methods for setting taxi fares. Of critical importance is the link between licence restrictions, fares and the quality of service. This report recommends that prices should face downward pressure to reflect current taxi licence restrictions, so that the regulator is not building inefficient costs into the fares that taxi users pay. It also suggests consideration of greater autonomy for the taxi industry to determine its own price structure.
