New Vehicle Efficiency Standard impact on Automotive Dealers

The CIE was commissioned by the Australian Automotive Dealer Association (AADA) to analyse the impact of the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES) on automotive dealers.

This report:

  • Identifies how the NVES is likely to impact automotive dealers.

  • Develops scenarios which describe the range of possible ways in which the NVES may play out in the market for new cars.

  • Quantifies the likely impacts of the NVES on automotive dealers by modelling new and used car markets under different scenarios.

We found that the introduction of the NVES could cost Australian dealerships between $0.7 billion and $2.1 billion between 2025 and 2029, depending on how car manufacturers and vehicle importers decide to meet their emissions targets.
