The CIE has advised the NSW Government on the impacts of the introduction of the container deposit scheme (CDS), Return and Earn. This has included:
advising the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal on the impacts of the CDS on household consumption of and expenditure on beverages
advising the NSW Office of Local Government on the impacts of the CDS on material recovery facilities, and the contextual issue of recycling given the imposition of import restrictions on recycled materials into China.
