The CIE recently prepared an economic analysis of the primary healthcare services provided by the RFDS to rural and remote Australia. This considered the drivers of value from the RFDS model of primary healthcare, and examined the essential role that the RFDS plays in meeting the community service obligation for universal healthcare across Australia. Leveraging off its social and physical capital and networks, the RFDS provides access to care where alternatives are minimal, and serves communities with the highest health needs where the value of early intervention and appropriate primary healthcare is particularly significant.
