Ben McNair

Principal Economist

Ben joined the Canberra office of the CIE in 2016. He has 15 years’ experience applying economic analysis to public policy and business decision making. Prior to joining the CIE, Ben worked in the water and energy industries. He holds a PhD in non-market valuation and a Bachelor of Economics with First Class Honours from the Australian National University.

Ben’s areas of expertise include:

  • Infrastructure regulation, including in relation to managing review processes, customer engagement, tariff structure, service standards, incentive schemes, demand forecasting and revenue modelling.
  • Non-market valuation, including technically rigorous discrete choice (conjoint analysis) surveys and applying estimates of willingness to pay to public policy and business planning.
  • Cost-benefit analysis of infrastructure and other public investment options.
