Peter joined the CIE in 2017, having previously worked for four years as a Senior Research Economist at the Australian Productivity Commission. Peter has completed a PhD in Economics at the Australian National University, where he also holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours)/Bachelor of Actuarial Studies.
Peter’s areas of expertise include:
- Cost Benefit Analysis – Including an analysis of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, and research into methods to incorporate distributional impacts in the cost benefit framework.
- Public finance/Taxation – The main area of research of Peter’s PhD. He has been a Research Fellow of the Tax and Transfer Policy Institute at the Australian National University, and a Visiting Researcher at the Office of Tax Policy Research at the University of Michigan.
- Microsimulation – Including experience running the MITTS model at the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research.
- Statistical Analysis – Including research looking at differences in tax filing behaviour amongst men and women.
